ION8

Date: October 2009

Client: ION8

Agency: Media Dimension Pte Ltd

Job: Corporate Profile

- Corporate Tagline

- Corporate Philosophy

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:

ION8 is Media Dimension's up and coming diva sister, if I may so describe, and provides a wide range of products and services that complements MD. To set a solid foundation, we must start foremost with the company's soul. After a long discussion with my agency, I had to deliberate.

I began by going through the images that came to mind when I 'visualised' ION8. Not unexpectedly, the vision of invigorating running water kept reappearing; the subconscious mind was playing on the pronunciation of 'ION8' and drawing links to the concept of 'ionized water'.

Spent a good few hours texting out the qualities of water, then got down to transform them into eight philosophy concepts, which flow into the single philosophy statement that stands for what the company believes in, what the company does and how the company interacts with her clients.

As the company has not yet opened its doors for business, I'm not liberated to post the stuff I created but do watch out for the Updates section here to read them once ION8 commences operation. Better still, let us work with you. ;)

Seng Choon

Date: September 2009

Client: Seng Choon

Agency: Media Dimension Pte Ltd

Job: Sub-brand naming

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:

Agency called while I was about to go on my short holiday and asked for a few brand-name options for client's other range of products catering to the budget-conscious consumers.

Waiting for transport and armed with adrenalin-packed grey matter and my cellphone, I came up with a few options, some of which I admit, were rather blatant like CHEEP! Eggs (吉!蛋), but I rather liked GREAT Eggs (吉利蛋), VALU-EGG (唯乐蛋), ECOTASTE (益可得) and SUNNYSIDE (顺利士/ 顺利十) , "十" being the Chinese word for ten and because there are 10 eggs in a pack, as I used simple and easy-to-remember words and also created similar-sounding yet meaningful Mandarin names.

Unfortunately, client decided to use my boss' own suggestion (which I'd also created a Mandarin name for) so the rest is history. But I still got paid. ;)

Honjin 7

Date: August 2009

Client: Honjin 7 (Sun Restaurant Group)

Agency: Media Dimension Pte Ltd

Job: Advertorial & Ad Copy (Prestige Magazine)

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:

I'd previously done the restaurants write-up for Sun Restaurant Group so for this job, it was a matter of putting in more information to the original copy for Honjin 7 and editing it into an advertorial.

While writing, I kept the visual image of the restaurant in my mind, reclusive with a zen-like indulgence. It worked very well in helping me maintain the tone of the whole piece of writing. Again, I got to sample their cuisine and to sit down with the boss of the Group while he reiterated the additional information - mostly about the food, chefs and upcoming plans - that he wanted us to include in the advertorial. The advertorial was completed on 13 July.

The section on shabu-shabu in the advertorial was then adapted to ad copy for advertisements to be placed in later issues of the magazine, in which I drew out the selling point of the client bringing in fresh ingredients from Japan for their cuisine's authentic taste. Thus came the line The epitome of authentic Japanese cuisine. The ad copy was completed in early August; see below for layout.

It's the beginning of a new romance with gastronomical writing.

Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room

Date: July 2009

Client: Wan Chai HongKong Tea Room

Agency: Media Dimension Pte Ltd

Job: Website Copy

Copywriting of:
- 'About Us' section
- 'Menu' section

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:

Something more substantial, this was written to front client's website. Agency wanted to highlight specific items on the extensive menu so I doubled up as a food reviewer of sorts for the Menu section. I really enjoy toying with various descriptions to describe the different textures and flavours I got to sample at their various outlets. This actually sparked off another interesting area to write about - food!
