- iPhone Press Release (iCallU)
Why I Wrote What I Wrote: As I was leaving on a short break, client emailed me the night before to ask for a proofread/ edit of his press release. Styled text to fit local press release tone and quickly emailed over. Found out later on that it was actually meant for US market hence localised version was not used. Well, at least I have attained a new record for express turnaround ;)

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:
Recommended by a friend working in said company to his colleague who was looking for a content writer for the above educational publications. After submission of content samples, I was asked to add on to the content for the Grade 3 and Grade 4 publications in July and August respectively. Upon completion of which, I was working on Grade 5 content, with a rather tight deadline.

This project requires me to tap on my experience from my day job and I rather enjoy creating content that I know will benefit learners of the English Language directly. (After all, students who make good with the language will be able to appreciate the language better as grown-ups, and that will really be good news for writers who take their work seriously.)

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:
Approached in the middle of the night by an old friend - who is now a big-shot in his agency - to copyedit the English copy for their client, MasterCard, which had been translated from Chinese. There were about a hundred and thirty offers to be refined, all by a fire-fighting deadline as the site was to be up and rolling within days, with all refined copy plonked in.

After a quick meet-up with the agency folks and the client, I first tried out a few to tally up with client's expectations. Client liked them and gave me the heavyweight categories. Cool!
What I thought would be a breeze was not exactly so; the content was not very accurately translated in some instances, while others had parts missing/mismatched in the English copy, compared to the Chinese versions. After the initial slow rev-up, I managed to polish up the sections pretty quickly, together with some bouts of copywriting and translation, churning out one category per day (and night). In total, the three sections accounted for about sixty percent of the offers presented on the site.
I am most apologetic about the fact that I did not have time to do thorough checks on my output but most of them turned out alright, except for some spacing and copy-and-paste glitches that I found on the live site. Do still check it out at pricelessbeijing.com :)

Why I Wrote What I Wrote:
Client has just commenced more aggressive marketing activities to promote his brand name to various target market groups and wanted to clean up the existing marketing copy he has. Client also required translation of his publicity banner copy to cater to his target market of Mandarin-speaking consumers at the Wanbao event. Particularly interesting aspect of this job was tweaking messages to cater to existing/potential/competitor's customers.

Copywriting:
- Seminar Series Titles
- Business Plan
- Proposed Company Names
Why I Wrote What I Wrote:
Have recently been inspired to start up a small business outfit with a close friend, as we believe the services we will be providing are truly beneficial and effective.
As I was thinking up titles for the seminar series we plan to have, I was also trying to conjure up a suitable name for the business. Finally settled on the word 'torch'; as a noun, it is a source of light that illuminates the way, and as a verb, it blazes and ignites. First round of planning completed with the draft of our business plan.

- Song Descriptions (English & Chinese)
Why I Wrote What I Wrote:
Was introduced to client by a work contact/ friend and we realised we were actually schoolmates. Client needed a press kit for publicity of her EP, in both English and Chinese. Interviewed her over a coffee and had the opportunity to chat with her a while more after the actual interview ended, giving me a better idea of her personality.

Interviewed her over a coffee and had the opportunity to chat with her a while more after the actual interview ended, giving me a better idea of her personality.
Client wanted a more elegant feel to her bio and I worked around her attitude towards things in life and her music. Here is the original version I wrote for her, together with its translated Chinese text, before she tweaked parts of it herself to her preference:
The Sensual Sentimentalist - Elaine Lam
Just when you thought you have heard all there is to jazz, in breezes a breath of fresh air in the form of Elaine Lam, pure and wholesome.
Elaine is the picture of that sunny girl-next-door, yet exudes the sensual sentiments of a pensive soul. Featuring an EP of her original compositions, this selection of light numbers tells of little snippets from our everyday lives. With her velvety voice, she blushes of blossoming love, comforts troubled hearts and even playfully brings one back to childhood in a ditty inspired by her son.
For this singer-songwriter, what started out as something fun during younger years became a lasting love when she decided to pursue her passion for jazz music. Elaine admits to being a down-to-earth girl who enjoys the little pleasures in life like discovering new gastronomical haunts or travelling, and that persona is evident in her choice of muses for her songs, beautifully delicate and unpretentiously real.
About Elaine Lam:
Elaine Lam is a local jazz singer-songwriter who is well versed in various musical instruments such as the piano, keyboard and the clarinet. She enjoys jazz, bossa nova and pop music, and is fluent in English and Mandarin. Inspired by her love for Latin music, Elaine has also picked up Spanish as well as French and Italian.
Elaine enrolled in the Very Singer Training Course at Ocean Butterflies Music Pte Ltd in 1998, together with JJ Lin and A Do, and has been singing at Music Dreamer Live! Cafe since 2001. She does private gigs such as weddings and has also performed at various public events such as Esplanade’s Coffee Morning show and memorably, at one of Jeff Chang’s mini concerts.
Elaine has been a member of COMPASS (Composers and Authors Society of Singapore) since 2001 and Hong Kong artiste Miriam Yeung, in her first Mandarin album "Smile" in 1999, has recorded one of her songs. Elaine is happily married with a son and enjoys her other role as a loving mother and wife.
